It's ok to change your mind

It’s OK to Change Your Mind!

The thing about life is that it’s constantly changing. And that constant change means you have to keep adjusting, too.

But what if you’re the one who is creating the change? How can you keep moving forward if you keep changing things?

Technically, you can’t…

UNLESS you stick to some guidelines.

#1

Don’t give up on things too quickly.

You have to give yourself some time to see if things are going to work out before you throw in the towel. If you’re making changes because you’re not seeing results right away, set a deadline. Give your current project time to play out, sometimes you just need a little patience and a deadline gives your patience some structure.

Try testing your idea with different versions before you give up.

One way of doing this is through A/B testing. The point of A/B testing is to split your audience to see which version of a marketing asset performs better. The asset remains the same except for one varying element.

For example, you may be promoting a lead magnet through email. To do an A/B test for the email, you might change the subject line to see which email had better results.

#2

Make sure your changes are still in line with your passion, values, and overall goals.

When you feel the desire to change what you’re doing, take a step back and reference the foundational pieces of your business. If the changes you want to make don’t align, ask yourself if the change is really necessary or if there’s another option that is more in line with your business.

#3

Keep your team involved.

There will be changes you make that your team will also have to deal with (remember, as you grow, you’ll definitely need a team). The best way to handle this is making your team part of the decision making process and include them from the beginning.

Have a team meeting and explain what you’re changing and why. Ask for feedback and answer any questions they have. Ask them what is currently working or what needs to change. Allow them to give you suggestions on what has worked for them in past experiences.

When your team feels involved, valued, and understands the changes, they will be more likely to accept and adopt the new workflow.

#4

Make sure your clients are informed.

The same goes for your client-facing changes. You might not want to make your clients part of the decision making process, but keeping them up-to-date with shifts in your business will make them feel like an insider. You should also value their ideas, afterall, you’re there to serve them!

Flipping the switch on either your team or your clients, will most likely backfire. Team members will be resistant and clients will be confused.

Social media is a great way to keep clients informed and involved.

What if the change you want to make IS your passion, values, or goals?

This is my favorite question because this is where I really believe it’s totally ok to change your mind. But the key is that you have to return to the basics in order to do so.

And that is totally fine!

As humans we are multi-passionate. This doesn’t mean your entire business has to change, it just means you’re redirecting it to align with the passion that you identify with most.

And, as humans, we continue to grow, learn, and be introduced to new things. So, your passion might become something you never knew existed!

This is true for your values, too. Life priorities and responsibilities change over time.

One of my personal values is to make daily time for my family, but four years ago (pre-Jay) that wasn’t really at the top of my list (the rest of my fam lives out of state).

This translates in my business as creating boundaries.

And, you guessed it, the same goes for goals. Especially when you’ve changed your passion or values, your goals will naturally change.

Your new goal might be to make MORE money because now you want to buy a house, or save for retirement, or take a big trip.

When you’re first starting out in business your passion, values, and goals will be especially sensitive to change.

>> You’re finding your way and trying to build something that is uniquely you. <<

As YOU change, and these things change too, you’ll be better prepared to roll with it.
